Day in the life of betabay for EYES
7:10am - just got back from japan 24 hours ago on a red eye and am ending a 3 month cycle of being out of my normal routine (western holidays, flu, Chinese New Year and Mom visiting my wife and I in Hong Kong for a month). Usually, I get up at 530ish and hit the gym right away. But today 7am felt right.
7:15 am - quick phone check before getting out of bed: twitter, WeChat, LinkedIn, email, WhatsApp, messenger and weekly Forbes article stats (5,000 views in 36 hours, not bad, but not my best, https://www.forbes.com/sites/baymclaughlin).
7:35 am - check calendar and daily agenda from my assistant before getting out of bed, turn on some tunes on Kello (one of my portfolio companies, https://www.getkello.com/) and the morning routine starts. Teeth, dry brush scrub, hot shower then cold shower, Withings scale check in (weight, fat, change over time, weather, fat, bone, water, and muscle) smoothie (one scoop powdered greens, two scoops HUEL vegan food powder, 2 scoops vegetarian protein powder, 1 scoop creatine, fresh Philz coffee beans ground and aero pressed). Take temperature with Withings Thermo (skipping daily blood pressure unless I have time before I walk out), omega 3 supplements.
8:06 am - home workout starts. It’s all about consistency and accountability. I don’t have time today for the gym but I have 10 mins to do something. 4 sun salutations and a little extra stretching / warm up, 20 push-ups, 25 body weight squats, 5 x 20 abs with 8 pound ball (don’t forget reverse crunches!) and spikey roller session (still tight from founder ski trip in japan last week). Send message to Hong Kong Fit Or Quit Club (‘#2 for home body weight workout... better than nothing! :-)’).
8:20 am - management reporting time. Time to pull the numbers for February. Love this new routine our CFO has us on. We are growing up ;-) Have a couple issues with finishing this and need to sync with CFO later.
9:00 am - call w/ US possible partnership, walk into the office (I live across the street from my office by design to ensure I don’t waste time commuting = ~ 30 - 120 minutes per day depending on where you live... I’ve lived in Hong Kong for four years and have made up an entire year of work vs people that commute and hour each day).
9:45 am - call with possible manufacturing customer in our studio from SF working on agriculture tech for livestock.
10:00 am - call canceled, my favorite thing in the world = more time back in my day. I worked on new weekly reporting metrics for our marketing division.
11:00 am - board meeting with one of my companies, SilenteMode.com.
11:45 am - Noon - eat lunch at my desk and prep for my noon (I have a macro-nutrient balanced meal delivered for lunch and dinner, monday - friday to save money, not waste time thinking about where to go, food prep or clean up = ~30-60 mins/day).
Noon - 1:15pm - Digital Health Lab R&D meeting with a global insurance company partner of ours.
1:15 - 1:30pm - Debrief with our Chief Creative Officer and update next week’s project plan for the digital health lab.
1:30 - 2:00pm - Pre-meeting for a public speaking gig in Shanghai with a $30B PE group. I’ve learned that public speaking is a way to offset my company’s marketing costs.
2 - 3pm - internal work on next week planning, end of week reporting, asana catch up, and walked out to get a juice to clear my head for a minute and beef up on vitamin C (always a juice with a grapefruit base).
3:00 - 4pm - Call w/ Tesla for our upcoming April conference and partnership debrief from a pitch the day prior.
4:00 - 5pm - R&D partnership meeting in the office with $19B manufacturing firm.
5 - 5:30pm - video conference with Spanish studio lead, lost the deal b/c of lack of funding.
5:30 - 5:45pm - debriefed with my sales head to see what we can do to optimize our studio sales process further.
5:45 - 6:05pm - Send a follow up email to a team we didn’t accept into our upcoming accelerator batch because they asked for custom feedback on LinkedIn. Pack up and check in with my team before I leave to see what their weekend plans are.
6:05 - 7:30pm - drinks with one of my senior team members that is leaving Hong Kong to move back to NYC. I ask for feedback on my performance as her leader and friend and talk about the industry opportunity as a whole.
7:30 - 10:30pm - our spouses join us for a round of drinks and we take them to Vietnamese dinner as a farewell gift.
10:30 - 10:50pm - hydrate, hit the foam roller, take my supplements, brush teeth.
10:50 - 11:10pm - prep for corporate keynote and sales event tomorrow morning (Saturday) in Kowloon before going to bed.

- Use every minute effectively. I am a efficient nut. I truly believe that the only thing you can’t get back in life is your time. I do everything I can to optimize my life, from my commute, to my food, to my time allocation throughout the day.
- Know your most important work and customer. For me it’s my founders and staff so I make more time for them vs any other work during working hours.
